Barwell SUE’s promised benefits seem to be forgotten

-

SO IT has finally happened, but where in the agreement mentioned in the HT October 11 are any of the originally proposed and promised benefits to the centre of Barwell?

I remember the glossy photos from the original exhibition and ‘Key Benefits’ which included a new homes bonus from central Government and the ideas for regenerating the centre which we were told could only be achieved through this scheme.

What also happened to the Conservatives who led the community against the SUE resulting in the overwhelming vote against it in the local poll?

Very conspicuous in their lack of voice, achievement or anything since replacing the Lib Dems.

If I was at all cynical I might think it was just a means for gaining power!

What can we therefore now look forward to?

Ever increasing congestion in the narrow streets of Barwell, many years of disruption from the construction activity and further difficulties with school placements and class sizes.

On this latter subject did I really read in the same article there will be a primary school and health centre, OR alternatively a pub and retail and commercial units?

What a strange choice from a sustainability viewpoint.

Still if we are not happy with all the decent existing pubs and clubs in Barwell we can all go down to the new pub and drown our sorrows. Mike Wilkinson
