Horse shelter built for centre

-

A FIELD shelter for horses has been built in Potters Marston.

The structure will provide the four horses at the Horse Savvy training centre with protection during extremely cold or hot weather.

The centre provides instruction in horse whispering and land management, and is run by Forever Savvy, a social enterprise that coaches adults with learning disabilities, such as Down Syndrome and Autism.

Verdon Timber Group from Bar- well provided wood for the building, at a discounted rate, while Travis Perkins loaned a nail gun and nails, speeding up construction.

A team of carpenters got most of the work done in a single day, with the remainder being completed over the next few days.

The Friends of Savvy fundraising committee suggested installing a shelter at a meeting in January, with £1,800 raised through a number of events to fund the project.

The horses, rabbit and chickens at Horse Savvy teach trainees to learn how to integrate with and care for animals, helping them develop skills needed in the workplace.

Forever Savvy’s other training centres are K9 Savvy, at Bagworth which provides mentoring in dog agility, gardening and woodwork skills, and CaféSavvy, a cafeteria open to the general public, also in Bagworth.

More information about the group is available on the Forever Savvy website and Facebook page.
