Bosworth manage to make the most of conditions in win

-

THERE is no doubt that all games on Saturday were affected by the wind caused by Storm Brian and Market Bosworth’s fixture against Long Buckby was no exception.

The wind blowing diagonally across the pitch made it very difficult for all handling and kicking moves.

However it was the home side that were able to control the situation and most of the first half was played in the opposition’s half of the field.

Bosworth were first to score, resulting from a rolling maul, which saw Ben Thompson get his name on the score sheet, Rich Harris kicking the conversion.

Long Buckby did venture into the Bosworth half once and got as far as the 22 only for Bosworth to regain possession and Will Clarke to sprint through with good backing up by Brightmore and Harris who was stopped within a metre of the line by strong defensive work by Long Buckby.

Eventually the Bosworth forwards worked another good move to enable Sam Balance to cross the line for their second try, converted by Rich Harris.

Bosworth still had the upper hand, winning line outs and heals against the head.

This gave them confidence in the weather conditions to choose scrum downs as opposed to kicks until they were five meters out when Guy Goodman caught the opposition off guard with a quickly taken penalty downing the ball under the posts for Harris, who did not seem bothered by the wind, to again convert.

The half-time score was 21 to Bosworth and Long Buckby yet to score.

Throughout the game the Long Buckby players made several dangerous tackles and ignored the warnings of the visiting Glouces- tershire referee who eventually had no option other than to show a yellow card to one of their wing forwards.

During the ten minutes that followed Bosworth were unable to take advantage but came close when Will Clarke made another of his spectacular runs only to put a foot in touch.

The Long Buckby defence held out until the sin-binned player returned but unfortunately for them that same player was shown a second yellow card for another dangerous tackle which automatically became a red.

This time Bosworth were able to take advantage of the situation when in the closing minutes of the game Will Burgess ran in a splendid try, again converted by Harris for the bonus point.

Final score Market Bosworth 28 - 0 Long Buckby taking them up to fifth in the league overtaking last week’s opponents Belgrave.
