Alleged assault on town traffic warden
POLICE are investigating after a traffic warden in Hinckley was left lying in the road following an apparent attack in broad daylight.
Officers were alerted just after 2pm on Monday October 23 to the incident outside the Nationwide Building Society, in The Borough.
The 35-year-old warden, who is employed through Harborough District Council, was taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire in Walsgrave for treatment to “minor injuries”.
A spokesman for Harborough District Council said: “Police are currently investigating an alleged physical assault against one of our civil enforcement officers and damage to property.
“Any verbal or physical assault against our officers, whilst they are carrying out their duties, will not be tolerated and the police are currently studying body-camera footage as part of their investigations.”
A passer-by on a bus said they saw the man “lying in the road” and “not getting up”. They added: “Luckily lots of people stopped to help and they called an ambulance.”
Leicestershire Police confirmed officers attended the scene and said the incident is being investigated.
A spokesman for the force said: “We were called at 2.15pm on Monday to a report of an injured man in The Borough, Hinckley.
“The 35-year-old man had minor injuries and went to the University Hospital Coventry in Walsgrave. We are now looking into this as an alleged assault. We are in the very early stages of our investigation. Inquiries are ongoing.”
