Animal charity land top award for innovation
AN ANIMAL rescue organisation serving Hinckley and Bosworth has won a top accolade through the Leicestershire Business Awards 2017.
Leicester Animal Aid (LAA), which cares for and rehomes rescued and relinquished dogs and cats from its Forest Road base in Huncote, won the Community Impact Award at an event hosted by the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce, which covers the whole of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
LAA fundraising manager Izzy Tutcher said: “The award recognises the dedication of our staff and volunteers and our role within the Leicestershire community.
“The Chamber noted how innovative we were as a charity and the judges were particularly impressed by our Community Pet Support Scheme.”
The scheme, launched in July 2016 offers elderly, physically disabled and housebound people to care for their companion animals in their own homes.
Mrs Tutcher said: “It means a lot to the staff and volunteers to be recognised for their dedication and hard work.
“The awards evening was fantastic and it was really lovely to hear the response to the photos of our residents and to receive congratulations from so many at the event.”
The Community Impact Award was sponsored by Leicester Business Festival which is the region’s largest business event.
