Top regional award hope for fish and chip shop

-

BARWELL batter experts Chris’s Fish and Chips is in the running to scoop the title of top East Midlands takeaway for the third year in a row.

The High Street outlet triumphed last year and the year before and is again in the final top five regional restaurants nominated for the 2017 British Takeaway Awards, organised in association with Just Eat.

The shortlist also includes Bombay Bites Evington Road in Leicester, the Square Pizza Company in Leicester, Aroma Indian Food to Go in Hucknall and The Little Italy Pizza Co in Sleaford.

The five received the most public endorsements during a month long voting period and will now go forward to the star-studded national awards ceremony on November 27 at The Savoy in London.

Strad Kyriacou, who runs the business, said the double win had been completely unexpected and was delighted with getting to the finals once again.

Last year the accolade came shortly after a devastating fire which destroyed part of the business and their family home.

The 2017 winners will again be chosen by a judging panel including celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott and businesswoman and former star of BBC2 Dragon’s Den Sarah Willingham.

They will review a mystery shopper experience report and a submission from each entrant explaining why they should take the regional takeaway crown.

The BTAs are about celebrating the diverse range of cuisines and rewarding the amazing contribution a nation of takeaway chefs and delivery drivers make to both their local communities and the British economy. In total, 17 coveted awards will be presented.
