‘The Fin’ is finally unseated after a long winning run

THERE was a surprise in Higham Lane’s Saturday Open match as Andy Findley’s winning run came to an end, he could only finish second!

Beating “The Fin” into top spot was Dave Hurlston.

In a peg to peg battle, both anglers fished the pole, but this time Fin’s magic powder didn’t work as Dave finished well clear with a 64lb 9oz winning catch from peg 11 while Andy weighed 46lb 7ozs from peg 12 to take second place.

Mick Linnett finished third with a 38lb 4oz catch.

Terry Smith won his Christmas dinner with victory in Sunday’s Shackersto­ne Members Fur & Feather contest.

Fished along the Horse & Jockey section, Terry landed fish to 1lb in an all perch catch weighing 3lb 7ozs.

Despite a chorus of several festive carols, profession­al bingo caller Johnny Gamble had to settle for second place with a catch of small bream weighing 1lb 13ozs.

On what was a hard day, a single 15oz Zander was enough to give Ian Stone third place.

Freddie Walker took the honours in Sunday’s Brookfield Open at Stoke Golding.

Drawn on peg 1, Fred landed 29lb 13ozs to win.

Ray Lewis came second with a 24lb 8oz catch.

Stu Campton finished third with a level 17lbs.

Mick Bassett’s “Silver Fish” match at Lychgate Fisheries fished harder than expected as the vast shoals of bream and roach didn’t feed.

Lee Hanson caught mainly small chub and a bonus 3lb tench to win with 9lb 1ozs.

Darren Milne came second with 6lb 2ozs, Mick Wilson finished third with 6lb while Mick Bassett completed the prize list with a level 5lb catch.

Sport was also harder than expected in Maynes Lake’s midweek Open as Chris Edwards pole fished pellet to the island to take top spot with a 23lb catch.

Higham Lane’s Thursday Open match was won by Andy Findley who drew peg seven again.

He pole fished his way to a 66lb catch of carp.

Pete Jupp finished second with 52lb 11ozs.

Chris Waite came in third place with a 38lb 9oz catch.

Lutterwort­h Angling Club travelled to Higham Lane Fishery for their Sunday contest.

With carp not feeding in numbers, Mick Bassett fished for roach and perch on peg five.

At the end with a couple of bonus carp he finished with a winning 29lb 8oz catch.

Colin Clarke came second from peg seven with a 27lb 12oz catch.

Ian Stripp finished third with 23lb 6ozs.

Tom Watt took fourth place with a 19lb 6oz catch.

Higham Lane have an Open match on Thursday, draw 9am.

There’s no Open match this Saturday due to the Mick Varley Memorial invitation match being fished.

Lychgate Fisheries have Open matches on Saturday, draw 9am and Sunday. Check draw time with Paul. Shackersto­ne have an Open match this Sunday, draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun.

Maynes Lakes have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 9am.
