Sunday League round-up: Mixed fortunes for Hinckley teams in County Cup

IT was County Cup weekend and Hinckley clubs had mixed fortunes. In the Sunday Premier Cup Rogue Elite took pride of place with a 2-0 win at home to the Community Football Academy.

Sporting Dynamo shared the points from a 2-2 draw at Finchy’s FC also in the group stages of the competitio­n whilst FC Topps went down to a narrow 3-2 defeat at Oadby Athletic despite goals from Scott Smith and Ryan Measham.

In the County Premier Shield FC Bacc took a point from a 2-2 draw at home to FC Willow whilst Plough Inn Bruntingth­orpe were on the wrong end of an 8-0 loss at home to Desford FC.

The PWS Leicester Division 1 saw the top three sides all come away with convincing wins.

Wykin kept the pressure on leaders Ullesthorp­e with a 4-0 win over Stanton United Old Boys.

Chris Booton gave them the lead and Lee Lovett increased it before the break. After Steve Hamlett had hit the post for Wykin, he further increased the lead and he added his second after Wes Hickling had also hit the woodwork. Ullesthorp­e maintained their lead at the top with a convincing 7-0 win over bottom club Coalville Miners. Braces from Ryan Brightmore and Alex Broadbent in this game with the other goals coming from Joe Merry, Chris Musson and Ross Weston. AFC Pubwatch also kept a clean sheet in their game at Sporting Dynamo Reserves winning 6-0. FC Topps Reserves gained their first 3 points of the season courtesy of a Neil Cowdrey hat-trick at Anchor Inn.

The Holywell had a difficult run of matches but they looked to bounce back after 3 straight defeats in the Printing Works Division 2.

It wasn’t long into the game when Scott Madwell picked the ball up from the right hand side corner of the box, and riffled in a low powered drive which hit the opposite post on its way in, inside 10mins.

The Well playing much better than in previous weeks and doubled their lead as Stewart Heathcote grabbed his first of the game, when a corner came in, Heathcote won the first header but just put it straight up into the air, how- ever the big man leapt again to lob the ball over the keepers head for 2-0. Heathcote again played a part in the 3rd goal, when he flicked on a header for James Hughes to sneak in unmarked and just simply tap home to make it 3-0at the break.

Shortly into the second half, it was four as Tustain grabbed his first with a knock down again from Heathcote. The fifth came from Williscrof­t who headed in from virtually on the line after the Red Lion failed to clear a corner delivered in by Chris Barber. When a cross was delivered by Sammy Daily, Heathcote brought it down and riffled in a half volley from around 12 yards for his 2nd.

Dan Housnlea then grabbed his first of the season when a cross shot went in at the back post .

Tustain completed his hat trick with two simple tap ins from good build up play. The scoring was completed by stand in captain Scott Madwell when he grabbed his second of the day, with his own cross shot went in, which was heavily aided into the goal by a huge wind assist to make the final score 10-0.

Leaders TC Building dropped points in a 3-3 draw at Stoneycrof­t United. Goals from the hosts came from Reece Cotton, Alex Franklin and Jake Purser with replies from Andrew Lewin, Daniel Toone and an own goal for TC. Stanton United Reserves came away from Gravity FC with the points after going 4-0 up at the break through a brace from man of the match Mitch Smith, and goals from Tom Macey and Dave Leeson.

Noel Gilbert pulled one back in the second half only for Josh Atkinson to wrap things up for the Old Boys, for whom Veteran Darren Page continued as deputy between the sticks. In the other game Thurlaston Magpies won 5-0 against AFC Barn.
