Thousands raised by Cat staff for Menphys
CARING Caterpillar colleagues have raised more than £8,000 to help disabled youngsters.
Employees at the Desford plant took part in a number of events including hosting a family fun day, undertaking a 50 mile cycling challenge and completing a 5km race over inflatables to support Menphys.
The summer open day featured digger demonstrations, factory tours, dog shows and market stalls along with fun fair rides and attracted around 3,000 visitors, amassing £5,590 from ticket sales and wrist bands.
Following on from this 21 Caterpillar employees took part in a 50 mile sponsored bike ride in July and the Desford human resources team took on an inflatable assault course in September, both generating around another £2,500.
Carolyn Pascoe, Menphys fundraising and marketing manager said: “We are thrilled with the support that we get from the employees at Caterpillar and would like to say a huge thank you to them for supporting Menphys. The money will help to fund one of our newest projects which will provide valuable work placement opportunities for disa- bled teenagers aged 14 to 18 year-olds.”
Dennis Beeching arranged for a cheque presentation to Menphys representatives. He said: “We are delighted to have been able to make this donation to Menphys, Caterpillar’s nominated charity. Our employees chose Menphys to be Caterpillar’s nominated charity because of the excellent work it carries out in our local area. Menphys can make a real difference to disabled children and young people in Leicestershire.”
Members of the Caterpillar Sports and Social Committee played a crucial role in the fundraising and cheque handover.
