THE FIRST round of Shackersto­ne’s Members Onstylelif­ting sponsored Winter League series was fished along the Gopsall Wharf length of the canal.

Andy Morton made a very respectabl­e catch of small roach and bream weighing 4lb 14ozs, all taken on pole fished bread punch to win.

Phil Baker weighed 2lb 3ozs of roach, again on the punch, to finish second while Pete Billington took third place with a 1lb 6oz catch of small fish.

It was back to winning ways for Jim Spradbury as he took the honours in Saturday’s Higham Lane Fishery Open contest.

Drawn on peg 24, Jim used “bomb and pellet” tactic’s to make a winning 60lb 11oz catch. Terry Sanderson used the same tactics to finish second with 59lb 9ozs while inform Mick Linnett came third with a 52lb 11oz catch.

Although weather conditions seemed good, fishing was hard for Mayne’s Lakes Wednesday Open contest.

Alan Wilson caught a ish first put in and continued to catch odd fish from the deeper water down the middle, using pole fished pellet to finish with 26lbs for the top catch of the day. Results; Section One, Pool One; Alan Wilson peg 36. Section Two, Pool Two; Ian Stripp 8lb 12oz from peg 7. Section Three, Pool Three; Colin Bent 11lb 8ozs from peg 48.

Lutterwort­h & District Angling Club found Shearsby Valley Lakes rock hard for their latest contest. Fished on Willow Pool, Colin Clarke took the honours with a surprising­ly low 17lb 7oz catch. Tony Simmonetti finished second place with 15lb 1ozs. Steve Spencer claimed third place with 9lb 8ozs with Micky Davis taking fourth place with 8lb 5ozs.

Higham Lane Fishey’s Thursday Open match was won by Paul Oliver who fished bomb and corn on peg 23 to catch 37lb 11ozs. Mick Linnett finished second, along way behind, with 15lb 9ozs.

Dave Massey took third place with 12lb 9ozs.

Higham Lane have Open matches every Thursday and Saturday, draw for both at 9am.

Maynes Lakes begin their Winter Saturday Open matches this weekend (Nov 18th ). Draw 9am, Fishing 10am to 3pm. Entry is just £10 all in.

Shackersto­ne have an Open match this Sunday, draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun,

Mayne’s Lakes have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.
