MP praises reading champions
BURBAGE schoolchildren buried their heads in books over the summer holidays and earned themselves a trophy to recognise their achievements.
The pupils of Burbage Junior School took part in the annual summer reading challenge, which this year had a theme of “animal agents”.
Youngsters who joined the scheme were given stickers when they borrowed books from their local library and were given clues to solve a ‘mystery’.
When they completed the challenge they were presented with a certificate.
Every year Hinckley Library encourages a spot of friendly rivalry by awarding a shield to the local primary school that has had the most students complete the challenge.
And this year it was Burbage Junior School which took the honour.
Emma Smith, a Hinckley librarian and Carole Kemp and Anne Horslett, volunteers from Burbage Community Library went along to hand over the shield.
By coincidence Bosworth MP David Tredinnick was also visiting the school and was quick to offer his congratulations to the star readers.
The summer reading challenge is a national scheme run every year by The Reading Agency and the public library network.
Burbage Community Library will be holding a Christmas Fayre on Friday November 24 between 5.30pm and 7.30pm.
This will include storytelling for children, a cake stall, craft stall, bric-a-brac and tombola.
