Call for Christmas day drivers to offer help

-

VOLUNTEER drivers are needed to support a special Christmas meal to be served in Hinckley.

The town’s Salvation Army will be dishing up a Christmas day dinner in its Lancaster Road meeting place on December 25 for people who would otherwise be lonely or struggling to cope.

Willing drivers with suitable vehicles are wanted to collect the guests from their homes around the borough and take them to the meal, then drive them back home again at the end of the afternoon.

People are likely to need picking up from around 10.30am and the event will end around 3.30pm, allowing drivers the chance to go home for their own celebrations in between journeys.

Volunteers may also be needed to meet and greet guests and to act as table hosts during the meal.

Guests will be offered light refreshments on arrival before a threecourse meal followed by entertainment and gifts for all.

They will each be given a packed tea to take home with them.

Anyone who knows someone who might benefit from what organisers say will be “a day of fun and friendship”, either singles or couples, is asked to fill out one of the guest application forms which are available from the Lancaster Road church.

Volunteer drivers are asked to call Major Carol Evans on Hinckley 251008 who can also send out guest application forms.
