THE DANCE floor was rocking for the annual A Gift to Lift ball.

The Hinckley charity smashed its previous fundraising targets for the event, making an impressive £9,120 in profit.

Attendees to the glitzy dinner and disco enjoyed a three-course meal, a presentation on the work of the charity and a silent auction with lots including a golf resort holiday, presented by a Keith Lemon impersonator.

Other surprise guests adding to the Hollywood vibe included Austin Powers and Joan Collins, while a glamorous photoshoot on the red carpet captured the action.

Adam Thomas and the Souljers got the crowds onto the dance floor, performing a set with disco music from the 70s, pop music from the 90s, and more modern tracks.

The charity said on its Facebook page: “We are completely stunned and overwhelmed at everyone’s generosity and support.

“We would not have come as far as we have in such a short period of time without it and would not be able to raise such fantastic amounts without all the companies, business and individuals who supported us.

“Well done to all of the A Gift to Lift team, for all the hard work they each carry out to continue to raise funds and awareness and provide us with such amazing events.”

Leicester Marriot Hotel hosted the event, with Function Photographic providing photography.

A Gift to Lift was set up in 2014 by Alex Hopwood from Hinckley, to provide gifts to support and encourage blood cancer sufferers and their families in battling the disease.

Alex died of acute myeloid leukaemia in late 2014, but the charity has been carried on by her relatives, with the longterm goal of buying a holiday home in Norfolk.
