Songs from the heart at music club concert
A HOME-GROWN duo will be providing an evening of continental song at a concert hosted by Hinckley Music Club on Saturday November 25.
Hinckley baritone Michael Dewis and accompanist, Burbage-based pianist Stephen Waterhouse, will be presenting songs from Vaughan Williams, Schubert and Mahler among others at the recital in Holy Trinity Church which starts at 7.30pm.
Mr Dewis, who studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama now teaches singing to others.
He has performed at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, at the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and with the English National Opera, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra among others but rarely gets to perform in Hinckley, which he says will make Sat- urday’s recital special.
He said: “The songs we have chosen are all amazing.
“The Vaughan Williams songs are very popular and the Finzi are glorious songs set to Shakespeare.
“The Mahler songs - I have a thing for Mahler - the words of Urlicht ‘The world lies in the greatest need, the world lies in the greatest pain-so much more would I rather be in heaven’ seem rather apt at the moment.”
Pianist Mr Waterhouse, who studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, also teaches, as well as working as an accompanist and musical director for choirs and musical theatre productions.
The concert is open to all, with admission ot the door £12 for adults, £5 for students and accompanied children free.
