Third win for five star Road

-

HINCKLEY’S Leicester Road scored five for the second consecutive match and made it three wins on the bounce with another convincing MFL 1 display writes Greg Rees

Previously it was Lichfield City at home under the lights and this time Coventry Alvis were comprehensively dispatched at the Leicester Road Stadium.

Striker Matty Langham (pictured left) bagged a brace and the 5-0 score line probably flattered the visitors.

Having defeated Alvis 0-4 in their first away game of the season, the Road were confident of another strong, attacking display – and they duly delivered.

They were all over their opponents from the off and on 16 minutes Langham chased down and dispossessed the retreating defender before advancing and beating the keeper with ease.

On 23 mins Langham got his second (and ninth of the season) with an assured header after a pinpoint cross from Joseph Lyne following good, probing work down the right channel.

It could have been more but LRFC went in at the break two goals to the good.

Receiving the ball wide left, he skilfully cut inside inside past two defenders and unleashed a fierce left foot drive inside the far post.

The fourth came on 73 mins from the man who can’t stop scoring, skipper Greg Downes (pictured right), his 14th of the season, following a great ball from another recent signing, Jetmir Esso - on for Langham.

He cleverly went one-versus-one with the left full-back, using the space and his pace, before another accurate cross allowed the advancing Downes to head home with aplomb.

The Coventry side battled on valiantly but the fifth duly came on 90 mins after a defence splitting pass from Lyne led to a probing cross from the tireless Nuno Gomes that flicked off an Alvis defender and looped over the helpless keeper.
