Police believe he may have been in ditch all night
A DRIVER who died after being found in a ditch near Dunton Bassett has been named.
Sam Walton, aged 25, from Wigston, suffered fatal injuries when his Subaru Impreza left the A426 Lutterworth Road and hit a tree.
Emergency services were called shortly before 8am on Monday morning (December 4) although it was believed the crash happened the night before.
Identifying Sam on Tuesday, a statement from Leicestershire Police said: “The vehicle was located approximately 700 metres from the Dunton Bassett crossroads, on the Blaby side and had been travelling towards Blaby.
“Leicestershire Police believe that the car, a blue Subaru Impreza, was the only vehicle involved.
“Anyone who either saw the collision, or who may have seen the vehicle between 11pm on 3 December and approximately 7.45am on 4 December, is asked to contact Detective Constable 1504 Seamus Burns on 101 quoting incident 91 of 4 December.”
Lutterworth Road was closed for several hours on Monday as police carried out investigations.
Fire, ambulance and air ambulance crews also attended the scene.
An East Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We received a 999 call at 8.07 am reporting a road traffic collision where a car had gone into a ditch.
“Helimed was dispatched along with an ambulance car and a double-crewed ambulance.
“The patient was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary by land ambulance.”
A LFRS spokesman said: “A call was received from East Midlands Ambulance Service to assist at a road traffic collision where a car had gone into a ditch.
“Crews arrived on scene to find no persons trapped.
“It was believed that the car had been there overnight, ambulance crews were treating the casualty for suspected hypothermia.”
