Cool new bar opens up inside metal container

A 20-YEAR-OLD entrepreneur has converted a metal container into a cool new mobile bar to hire out for weddings and parties.

Jed Davies, from Sharnford, works for his family business, THS containers, who sell and hire storage containers.

However, the creative youngster was struck with the idea of converting the “versatile” shipping containers into something else altogether - a mobile bar.

Jed got to work on converting a container earlier this year, spray painting it grey and fitting it with luxurious wooden worktops. He also worked with his friend, a carpenter, to transform the container to make it look like a bar, as well as an electrician to bring it to life.

The unit has also been fitted with three doubled chilled taps, which can serve lager, bitter and cider.

Jed said of his new venture: “I’ve seen that a lot of people have been converting horse boxes for bars, but there’s nothing around our area which has been made using a shipping container.

“We started work in April on a new side opening container, which was supplied by THS containers and we had it sprayed grey.

“Then I got a friend of mine called Barney Blockley Campton, who is a very skilled carpenter. We didn’t have a design, we agreed to do it off the top of our head.

“Once we had the structure of the bar inside in place, I had Marc Scrivens to come and fit electrics to the container.

“Then it came to the hard part - choosing what kind of finish we would go for. For the interior, me and Barney sat down and came to the conclusion of using a burnt wood cladding effect. We thought this would give a very nice luxury effect to the bar.”

Jed held a launch party for his new mobile bar in the garden of his local haunt, The Bricklayers pub, in Sharnford.

He added: “The opening party went great, I couldn’t thank everyone enough for their support, especially The Bricklayers giving me advice.

“We are now taking bookings for weddings, private parties and small festivals. If we get busier and busier, I will consider building a second bar.”
