Sovereignty is key and the figures also stack up

-

IN reply to the really rather tiresome and incessant trolling of Shyfox I would offer this.

One very good reason that I believe trumps Shyfox’s latest rant full of supposition and devoid of facts is the one of sovereignty. A country that does not control it’s own borders or law-making is no longer a country. The identity of nations is being eroded by stealth and Juncker has already outlined his plans for a Federal Europe, which in itself is a perfectly good reason to leave.

Secondly, there is an economical argument. The EU has a shrinking share of world trade. The rest of the world is a growing market. We have a massive and growing trade deficit with the EU but a trade surplus with the rest of the world.

We pay the second highest amount to the EU. Why on earth, on any sensible economic basis, would we want to stay in the EU? Once you consider these facts the decision to leave becomes very simple.

Now I don’t expect Shyfox to agree with any of this but at least he could respect my view and the view of other people who voted to leave, rather than dismissing us as charlatans and wailing because Remain lost the referendum. I would love to have a proper, rational debate with him but it’s just easier to write an anonymous weekly rant isn’t it? So here is mine. I voted out, not half-in, half-out. Not out but paying billions to the EU for leaving. Not out but paying EU pensions for years to come. Not out but still subject to EU law. Not out but using out troops for their riot control. Out and not taking 3, 4 or 5 years to do it. And I didn’t vote out so a couple of years later MPs who didn’t like my majority viewpoint could vote on acceptance of a deal or no deal or try to demand a new referendum on the result of the original. That is not democracy! Clive Hill Burbage
