Crescent’s Simply Gym has new name
A GYM in Hinckley is to muscle up with major investments after it was acquired by one of the UK’s largest leisure providers.
Simply Gym in The Crescent complex has been taken on by Places for People Leisure, which manages over 100 leisure facilities for local authorities across the country.
Current staff and membership will continue as usual, as the lowprice fitness centre becomes one of the social enterpise’s Places Gyms, venues designed to attract people of all abilities to work out.
The operator exchanged contracts for two other Simply Gyms, one in Chesterfield and one in Telford, as part of the deal.
Sandra Dodd, chief executive of Places for People Leisure, said large investments at the three sites in the coming year will ensure “vibrant, attractive and imaginative places that can’t help but encourage peo- ple to be more active”.
She said: “We will be working closely with Simply Gym to ensure a smooth handover and are looking forward to welcoming the Simply staff into the Places for People family.
“Our Places Gyms are designed to offer a more convenient and inviting place for people of all abilities to come and enjoy a more active lifestyle.”
Simply Gym Hinckley opened in 2016, scaling two floors with more than 100 individual pieces of equipment, free-weights, cardio-vascular equipment, a large studio and a spin studio.
Andy Hastings, director at Simply Gym, said: “We are very pleased to have concluded this sale but will be sorry to lose three gyms which have run very successfully for us.
“We are grateful to the staff and members who have contributed to this success. We know the gyms will go from strength to strength under Places for People.
“Their plans for investment and development will be welcomed by everyone involved.”
The new owners entered the lowcost gym sector in May 2015, launching the Places Gym brand, and they currently have three in operation, in Preston, Sheffield and Corby.
The three Simply sites will be handed over on December 15, with staff transferred under TUPE regulations.
Simply Gym Hinckley is open Monday to Thursday, from 6am to 10pm, on Friday from 6am to 9pm, and on the weekend from 8am to 8pm.
Membership starts from £16.99 a month, and can be set up via the Simply Gym website, or at the venue’s reception.
