Sunday League teams faceoff in cup competitio­ns

THE latest round of matches in the County Premier Cup saw FC Topps suffer a 6-1 defeat at Quorn Royals 2008 while Rogue Elite lost narrowly at home by the odd goal in five to The Sports Bar Anstey Swifts.

In the County Premier Shield, Hinckley teams fared much better with Plough Inn winning 5-3 at Blaby and Whetstone and FC Bacc winning by the only goal of the game at Huncote courtesy of a goal from Jacob Cross which sees them within a game of the Knock-out stages of the competitio­n.

In the Sunday Intermedia­te Cup, Wykin won through with an emphatic 8-0 win at Bulls Head Whetstone Lee Lovatt and Steve Hamlet gave them the interval lead and in the second half Hamlet went on to complete his hat-trick alongside three from Lloyd Henry.

Wes Hickling completed the scoring while Joe McKenna worked hard to maintain a clean sheet in the Wykin goal, but Athletico Duke are out after losing 6-2 at Shepshed United.

AFC Pubwatch crashed out of the County FA Trophy losing 14-2 at Measham Imperial.

Stanton United OB are also out after losing 5-3 at home to Dunton & Broughton United Dynamo, Lewis Dunkley (2) and Kyle Olner scoring their consolatio­n goals.

Stoke Golding are the league’s sole representa­tives left in the County Sunday Vase and they ensured their passage with a 4-1 win at home to Mossdale Rangers.

Kaine Finch scored twice with goals also coming from Thomas Moore and Jack Purkiss.

Ullesthorp­e maintained their position at the top of the PWS Leicester Division One with a narrow 2-1 win at Anchor Inn with James Lienau scoring both their goals.

Lewis Wainde scored the Anchor goal in reply.

In the Printing Works Division Two, leaders TC Building shared the points from a 4-4 draw with FC Gravity, Daniel Toone was again on the scoresheet for TC with a brace, other goals from Joe Mason and Corey Simons. Noel Gilbert replied for Gravity with a hat-trick alongside a goal from Sam Lavender.

Stand in keeper Adrian Tapp couldn’t prevent a depleted Stanton United Reserves losing 2-1 at Thurlaston Magpies with Kyle Andrews scoring their goal after 15 minutes.

Shilton United took an early lead against Red Lion only for Matt Angell to equalise for Lion and Carr Craddock then gave them the lead.

They couldn’t hold out though and ended up losing 4-2 with Josh Weaving (2), Matt Bown and Kieran Almey on target for Shilton.
