Bosworth fall victim to late defeat for second match in a row

-

Oadby Wyggestonians 21 Market Bosworth 19 IN receiving the ball from the kick off a Bosworth player knocked it on, they lost the resulting scrum but as Oadby approached the line, one of their players lay unconscious and the referee stopped the game.

This action helped the player to a speedy recovery but also saved a certain try in the opening minutes. However the home side settled for three points from the penalty awarded.

Oadby continued to attack the Bosworth line but a second penalty awarded to Oadby failed to attract any more points.

Bosworth settled down and got on with the job of mounting attacks on the Oadby line only for the referee to get in the way to hinder things.

The resulting scrum was won and the Bosworth threes gave a wonderful display of running rugby ending up with Harry Milner going over for the try and Rich Harris kicking the conversion.

The game continued to ebb and flow until Oadby increased their score with another penalty kick.

At this point Bosworth came under increasing pres- sure on their own line, added to which a clearance kick was charged down and an infringement led to a quick penalty five metres out and the inevitable repeated barge forward culminating in Oadby’s first converted try of the game.

Bosworth reacted instantly by collecting the ball from the re-start enabling Ricky Wickwar to run in an excellent try in the corner which Rich Harris converted from the touch line.

By half time Bosworth were leading by one point.

For an extensive period at the start of the second half Bosworth pinned Oadby down in their half eventually being rewarded with a forward’s try again involving Ricky Wickwar.

The referee found it necessary to issue a couple of yellow cards at this point for coming in at the side, firstly to a Bosworth player, and while he was in the sin bin a yellow was shown to an Oadby player.

Neither team could take any advantage from this situation but when it was back to fifteen a side Oadby were able to form a rolling maul to force their way over to narrow the score to one point again.

With the light fading fast and the clock ticking away with Bosworth leading by the one point Oadby found some extra strength from somewhere and mounted a strong attack on the Bosworth line eventually forcing them into making a mistake in front of their own posts for an easy kick to secure the win for Oadby by just two points at the final whistle.

Another unfortunate defeat for Bosworth in the last minute of the game sees no change in the league positions.

Next up are Oakham this Saturday with a 2.15 kick off.
