Sluggish match ends all even for Barwell on the road

BARWELL started the game against Buxton on the front foot with forwards Callum Ball and Brady Hickey applying pressure writes Luke Pawley.

Liam Hardy had the first chance for the hosts in the first minute, pulling an effort wide of the near post. Either side had good chances, with the impressive Joe McGee lifting a shot over the crossbar and Barwell’s Jake Heath curling one wide from range.

A defensive mix-up in the Barwell box allowed Luke Hinsley to take advantage and slam the ball past Liam Castle. The goal seemed to have given the hosts an extra spring in their step. However Barwell’s relentless pressing was rewarded on 44 minutes as Eddy Nisevic struck the ball across the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.

Luke Hinsley caught sight of goal on a couple of occasions in the second half, but could direct neither shot nor header on target.

Barwell manager Jimmy Ginelly said: “I think it was quite a lethargic game, spoilt by the referee’s whistle. I had a chat with him afterwards and said ‘I think, on a personal note, you spoilt the game.’ He didn’t think that but both benches thought the referee was quite whistle-happy.

“I always tell the lads to get a point away from home, whether you play well or not. Organisati­on is key. We’ve come to Derbyshire and coming back with a point so I’m quite happy really.”
