Volunteer drivers needed to help elderly
AN APPEAL is being sent out for more people to act as volunteer drivers in and around Hinckley.
The call is from charity the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) which offers care and support to older people, relieving loneliness and helping individuals stay healthy and connected to their communities.
Drivers undertake a variety of tasks including taking clients out shopping, visiting a local lunch club or ensuring people get to appointments on time.
Helen Brackenbury, service manager, said: “We are seeking more volunteer drivers and helpers within the area to assist older people stay healthy and independent in their own homes. “Royal Voluntary Service provides vital services for older people in Leicestershire but without more volunteers we cannot meet the ever-growing demand for our services. We know that volunteering can make a very real positive difference to both the people that we support and the volunteers themselves.
“If you have a couple of hours to spare a week and are looking to make a difference in your own community then you are exactly who we are looking for. Volunteers are given full training and all expenses are paid.”
