Bridge problems would be eased by new M69 junction

-

YET again we see photos of yet another lorry stuck under the rail bridge on the A5.

Surely, the obvious answer is to build another junction just south of Elmesthorpe on the M69.

This must be a four way entry/exit type of access to Leicester and Coventry bound traffic. This can then be connected to the perimeter road where it meets Leicester Road at Barwell.

This gives over long/height vehicles the ability to bypass both the A5 and Rugby Road low rail bridges.

Also with the expansion of Barwell SUE and same for Earl Shilton, it would allow traffic from these developments to bypass Hinckley town centre.

Which due to planner’s fascination for traffic lights has now caused chaos on the way through - just look at Malfunction Junction outside the Hub.

Now to build this link should not take much more than one year and no great cost other than three pre-cast concrete bridges to span the railway and top of the M69. If workers on 24 hours, seven days a week. For those who say it cannot be done, I say look at what the Victorian Navvies did with not a lot of mechanical machines to do the hard work.

While on a motorist theme, can I suggest a cure for te problem encountered by Mr Pettigrew.

Ban with immediate effect all new cars and vans fitted with safety equipment - i.e. seatbelts air bags and ABS systems. Then have all the above components removed from existing vehicles.

Now fit a stout steel 6 inch spike to the centre boss of the steering wheel. This would at a stroke make them more fuel efficient (less weight) and more importantly make these type of drivers concentrate on their driving.
