Success for village’s festive lights event

-

FAMILIES and friends gathered in the centre of Barwell for the annual festive lights switch-on.

Organised by the parish council the event featured music and merriment and even a couple of real-life reindeer - Sven and Mysa.

Special thanks went out to Keeley Holland of Barrie Road, Hinckley for donating this year’s tree. When Keeley decided to cut down the large 30ft spruce tree in her back garden, she kindly offered it to Barwell Parish Council who immediately accepted her offer.

Barwell Parish Council Chairman Barry Granger said: “I was honoured to accept this tree on behalf of the parish council, this is a wonderful gesture of goodwill and ena- bles us to save a huge amount of money which we can now put towards our planned children’s events for 2018.

“The light switch-on is always a special event in the village, with the whole of Barwell coming together to celebrate the official start of the Christmas celebrations and as a parish council we are all very proud that this was another successful event for the village.”

After another successful Barwell Light Switch-on, Barwell Parish Council would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported this community event.

Thanks also go to Councillor Mike Hall - leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council - for switching on the lights, James Wheatley Junior from The Carousel Showground for continued support, Chris Probert from The Blacksmiths Arms, DJ Chris Reeves, The Church Brigade Band and Choir and the children from Barwell Junior School Choir.
