Plans for old scout hut involve new nursery

-

A VANDAL-HIT former scout hut could be turned into a day nursery for up to 40 children.

A planning application has gone in to change the use of the old hall located off Sunny Hill South in Burbage.

A statement in support of the submission says: “The building has lain vacant for a considerable amount of time and is in a state of disrepair, requiring investment to ensure repair and ongoing maintenance.

“The applicants are the owners of the building and have recently had discussions with various community groups. They have agreement with an established provider of child day care, pending planning approval for the change of use.”

The hall is in the corner of the sports its playing field and is adjacent to Burbage Primary School playing fields.

The day nursery provider already has six other facilities in Leicestershire and plans to cater for babies, toddlers and pre-school children with operating times of 7.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday for 51 weeks of the year.

Nine full-time positions will be created if the change of use is accepted and the nursery operates at capacity.

The plans involve refurbishing and upgrading the hall to provide modern facilities with a few minor alterations externally with the addition of extra windows, along with fencing, paths and external play equipment.

Internally the main hall will be subdivided into three play areas, all with external access. A new office will offer supervision of the entrance and lobby for enhanced security.

Former kitchen and toilet areas will be reinstated, with new wet areas/ changing areas provided in each room. Provision will allow for nine babies, 14 toddlers, and 17 preschoolers.

The application will be determined at a later date.
