TV pundit helps dish out sporting awards

ROB BEASLEY, award winning sports writer, best selling author and TV pundit was the special guest at this year’s Hinckley and Bosworth Sports and Health Alliance Awards evening.

During the event, Rob spoke about his interviews with famous sports people, especially with Ronaldo in Madrid, to a packed audience of sporting nominees and their supporters.

Rob is a well-know sports pundit who has written books about Jose Mourinho and other football legends.

Councillor, Maureen Cook, borough sporting champion and executive member for culture, Sport and leisure said: “We have a depth of amazing talent of all ages, across sports, in the borough.

These awards acknowledg­e and celebrate the inspiratio­nal role all the nominees and winners play. I would like to congratula­te them all again for all they do to make such an inspiratio­nal sporting borough.”

Among the winners was Steve Cocayne who is soon to enjoy a seat at the BBC Sports Personalit­y of the Year awards.

Former Royal Artillery man Steve, 50, from Hinckley, who had his right leg amputated below the knee following a training accident, competed in the 100m sprint, shot put, discus and powerlifti­ng events at this year’s Invictus Games for ex servicemen and women in Toron- all to, Canada.

Another award winner as Matt Hampson who is a former English rugby union prop who became a tetraplegi­c after a scrummagin­g practice accident for England under 21 on March 15 2005.

Ever since then he has been a campaigner and charity fundraiser extraordin­aire. He set up the Matt Hampson Foundation which is a charity which provides advice, support and relief for anyone suffering serious injury or disability which has arisen from any cause, but in particular from participat­ion in or training for any sport, sporting activity or other form of physical education or recreation.

Matt regularly visits beneficiar­ies, schools and societies where he gives advice and motivation­al talks taken from his own experience­s.

Adult Volunteer of the Year – John Denore (Market Bosworth FC)

Active Lifestyle Award – Anne and David Platt

Active Lifestyle Business Award – Hinckley Leisure Centre (Places for People)

Unsung Hero – Denise Larrad

Lifetime Achievemen­t –Robert Harding (Market Bosworth RFC) Dominic Skeat
