Desford and Barwell teams produce real classic in Table Tennis League

GEORGE Ward D continue their march towards the Division Two Table Tennis title with a confident display against Cat G winning by eight sets to two.

There was the usual maximum from Roger Hill with teammates Callum Dale and Jack Dennis winning two sets each, both losing to Cat G’s experience­d Alex Downes.

GW D continued their good form when they took on Cat F running out winners by 10 sets to nil.

Market Bosworth 1 gave a good account of themselves, when they met Cat F only just losing by six sets to four, Eddie Kwok (Cat F) winning his three whilst john Veasey (MB1) won two for Bosworth.

Hit’n’Hope kept their chances of second spot alive with a fine win over Queen’s Barwell by seven sets to three. Rob Sedols (H’n’H) won his three sets and Bryan Moylan and Ian Nixon taking two each in the win. In their next match against second placed G Ward C they again showed good form taking the match by seven sets to three. John Harrison (H’n’H) winning all three of his sets to keep up the pressure on the top two.

G Ward C had another disappoint­ing result when they surprising­ly lost to Cat H by three sets to seven. Star of the match was Cat H’s Steve Crutchley with three wins.

G Ward F’s match with Cat G was a classic.

The Desford side raced into a three sets to one lead before the Barwell team finally found their form. Young James Walker (GWF) gaining a splendid victory over the experience­d John Hames (Cat G) and then Dick Jenkins (GWF) overcame Dael Sidwell (Cat G) 11-8 in the fifth game to level the scores at three each.

Walker then defeated John Pearson 11-5 in the fifth to put GWF one set up. Sidwell (Cat G) hit back to level things in the next set against Tom Kelly (GWF).

Jenkins took the ninth set for GWF with Cat G winning the doubles to make the final score five sets each.

In their next match GW F defeated Cat E by seven sets to three, both Connor Harris and Dick Jenkins (GWF) winning three sets each.

Queen’s Barwell took 10 sets to nil win over luckless mkt Bosworth 2.

The current league table sees G Ward D leading with 81 pts from ten games, a real battle going on for second spot between GWC on 65 pts and Hit’n’Hope on 64 pts both having played 10 games
