Keep your business and belongings safe say police

-

A FILM to remind people and businesses to keep their belongings safe over the festive period has been released by Leicestershire Police.

Daddy Stole Christmas is narrated by an excited young girl whose father returns home with bags of Christmas presents, but it soon becomes clear things are not as they appear to be.

Leicestershire Police said: “December is a busy time and people may be a little more absent-minded because of the amount of things they have to do. “Taking a few extra minutes to check you’ve locked up and not left purchases on show in your car or house can help you and your family enjoy Christmas.

“Christmas is a time for celebration and fun, and we want everyone in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to be able to enjoy the festivities.”

Businesses are also advised to take extra precautions, as the police received more than 440 reports of theft from shops in the four weeks from December 12 in 2016.

The force said in a Facebook post introducing the film: “Some criminals view shoplifting as a victimless crime but that is certainly not the case.

“Each time something is stolen from a store the retailer loses money and, as a result, may be forced to increase prices or, even worse, close their store due to the losses. If you’re in a shop and see someone behaving suspiciously, let security or shop staff know immediately.”

Visit the Leicestershire Police website for more information on how to stay safe this Christmas.

The video is being plugged on social media using #DaddyStoleXmas.
