Plans for 42 homes on Coventy Road

MORE homes are in the pipeline for a main road into Hinckley town centre.

An outline application has been made to demolish the now empty former National Grid offices adjacent to the new Redrow estate on Coventry Road and construct up to 42 houses.

The 1.2 hectare site is sandwiched between Clarendon Park and Short Way, the new access into Redrow’s Park View.

It was previously part of the wider Jarvis Porter complex before the premises was taken over by National Grid - now renamed Cadent.

However, the building has been vacant for three years and the area’s importance as an employment zone has evaporated, being replaced with residential emphasis.

The application to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council states access to the development, if approved, would be from Short Way which connects to Coventry Road opposite its junction with Granville Gardens.

No direct vehicle access will be takenfromCoventryRoadalthough there is scope for a new pedestrian link into the site from Coventry Road to the north of the existing access into Clarendon Park.

It is thought homes constructed on site could be a mix of two and three bedroom properties in a combination of detached, semidetached and terraced styles rising up to three storeys.

Parking would primarily be on plot. Should planning permission be granted it could help support the potential conversion of the former Clarendon Club site into residential accommodation.

The club is being demolished after the operators failed to recover from a major fire at the end of February.

Surrounded by flats and houses the site would most likely be seen as prime for development for dwellings. The future of the site is currently unknown.
