X-Factor’s Sam draws winning ticket

-

A YOUNGSTER from Broughton Astley joined stars of a city panto to draw the winning tickets in a Loros winter raffle.

Four-year-old Alexa and her mum Emily Glanville made the draw alongside X Factor winner Sam Bailey, children’s TV presenter Richard McCourt and BBC Radio Leicester presenter Martin Ballard who were appearing in Beauty and Beast at Leicester’s De Montfort Hall.

Emily, whose grandma - Alexa’s great-grandma - known as GG was cared for by Loros last Christmas and New Year, shared her experiences to encourage people to buy tickets for the draw.

In total the raffle generated £105,000 for the county hospice service.

She said: “Being part of the draw and this year’s raffle has just been incredible.

“It’s very humbling to know that by sharing my story I’ve helped raise more than £100,000 for Loros.

“It’s a year now since GG was at Loros and I feel like we’ve done a full circle in that time.

“It’s great to feel like we’ve ended on such a high.

“I know GG would be very proud of both me and Alexa.”

The top raffle prize was £10,000, with £500 going to the runner-up, £250 to the third out of the draw and £50 to five more ticket-holders.

Sam Bailey said: “It’s great to be part of the raffle draw and to see so much money has been raised for Loros.

“I think everyone in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland – and even further afield – knows or has known somebody who is living with a terminal illness, so no wonder this has sold so many tickets, as it’s so close to everyone’s hearts.”
