Party goes with a bang at Mencap club

-

VOLUNTEERS from Hinckley and Rugby Building Society turned party organisers to put on a Christmas bash for the local Mencap’s Thursday Club.

Carol singing, festive bingo and a visit from Santa entertained guests at the charity’s base in Hill Street.

The event was organised by customer assistant Sophie Hancock and administrator Suzanne Williams as one of Leicestershire Cares’ Yuletide challenges for businesses to celebrate the season by helping others.

Sophie said: “I was really passion- ate being involved with this and couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to volunteer to help us throw a really amazing party. One of the best bits was when Santa arrived - the whole room erupted with excitement.

“We had some generous donations from Britvic and Walkers which helped us to give the partygoers a fantastic spread.”

Suzanne said: “The evening was filled with joy, fun, singing and laughter. Everyone had a fantastic time. The smiling faces and excite- ment from each person when Santa was handing out their gift is something I won’t forget.

“Thanks to all the team that helped out. I’m sure they’ll all agree it was a pleasure to give something back to the community.”

The party is not the first time Hinckley and Rugby volunteers have helped at Mencap. Last Christmas also saw the society throw a party and in 2013 a Leicestershire Cares team challenge saw Hinckley and Rugby staff decorate Hinckley Mencap’s meeting room.
