Award-winning guides are six of the best
GUIDES from across the borough have been presented with some of the uniformed organisation’s highest accolades.
Florence Ball, Beck Jeffs, Sarah Chambers, Sophie Jeffs, Tiegan Lynch and Louise Morgan received awards from the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Rashmikant Joshi in a ceremony celebrating guiding achievement across the county.
Florence, a member of the 1st Market Bosworth Guide company, was given the Baden Powell Challenge Award, the highest honour a guide can achieve.
Taking up to 18 months to work towards, the challenge involves completing 10 tasks covering healthy lifestyles, global awareness, discovery, skills and relationships and celebrating diversity, as well as taking part in a residential event organised at county level.
Beck, Sarah and Sophie, who are all leaders at guiding units based at Barwell Methodist Church, all received the Chief Guide’s Challenge Award.
The second-highest award for senior section members aged from 14 to 25, the award calls on participants to spend a set amount of time on tasks relating to community action, creativity, fitness for life, independent living, leadership, personal values and other interests.
Tiegan, a young leader at the 7th Hinckley United Reformed Church (URC) Brownie pack received her gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and Louise, who is also a young leader at the 7th Hinckley URC pack received her bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Hinckley division girlguiding commissioner Carol Lynch said: “These young women have shown enormous commitment in achieving their respective awards.
“They are to be con- gratulated on such great achievements and I wish them every success in the future.”
