George Ward B held to a draw despite taking an early lead against Cat C

IN DIVISION 1 on the Table Tennis League Cat C and G Ward B fought out an exciting draw to finish at five sets all.

GWB raced into a four sets to one lead but Cat C then dug in a fought back in style.

John Winsper (Cat C) beating Danny Whittaker(GWB), then Bob Whittaker completed his maximum for GWB but from then on it was all Cat C.

Andy Spring defeating D Whittaker, Winsper overcoming Richard Chester before Winsper and Randle took the doubles to force the draw.

Cat C followed this up with an eight sets to two victory over Barlestone B with Spring again in good form winning his three.

Cat A continued their good form with a nine sets to one victory over Barlestone B

Bottom team GW E almost pulled off the shock of the week when they took on third placed Barlestone A, just losing by six sets to four.

The Barwell side promoted Callum Dale from their D team in Division 2 and he played out of his skin to claim two victories, one against Charlie Bateman and the other against Alex Westerby.

Young Edward Brown made a rare appearance for GWE and he too claimed victory over Westerby.

Stalwart Dave Richardson making it a miserable night for Westerby claiming his one win.

Brown and Dale went very close to snatching the draw against Bateman and Adam Pettitt just losing 10-12 in the fifth game of the double.

GWA had little difficulty in seeing off Queen Mira by nine sets to 12.

Both Mark Perkins and Leigh Morris winning all their sets.

Their next match against Cat A was a keenly contested event.

Rhys Emery (Cat A) was man of the match winning all three of his sets whilst Perkins and Morris picked up two each for GWA. The final result was five sets all draw.

Cat A put clear daylight between themselves and close rivals Barlestone A when they won the match by six sets to four.

Barlestone’s Adam Pettitt was man of the match with three wins.

Goons overcame GWB by eight sets to two to remain top of the table.

Cat C claimed another draw this time against Barlestone A, mainly due to Phil Jones (BA) who injured himself and had to withdraw after only playing one set.

Currently Goons lead the Division 1 table with 104 points from 12 games, second are Cat A withy 103 points from 13 matches, closely followed by G Ward A with 93 points also from 13 matches.
