IT was back to winning way’s for Hinckley’s Max Higgott.

Max won the two day Makin’s Fishery event fished over the Christmas holidays.

After winning on day onene, with a 81lb catch of carp he caught 32lb on the second day to win his section to finished with a perfect two point score for the overall win.

Then after a “bad day at the office” in his previous match, Max fished the Peatling Pool’s Sunday Open. Drawn on Pool C peg 10, he used bomb and corn tactics to catch 51lb of carp to recorded another win.

While everybody else struggled there was a stunning winning catch in Sun- day’s Open.

Jonny Harvey pole fished punched bread along the far bank on peg 50 to finish with a superb 94lb 14oz catch. Ian Shirley finished second along way behind with a 15lb catch.

It was hard going at Higham Lane Fishery for the Thursday Open.

John Varley on peg 12 and “Steady” Eddie Sharrad on peg 13 battled for top spot, in the end it was John’s four fish catch weighing 18lb 9ozs that took the honours.

Eddie finished second with 16lb 9ozs.

Dave Hurlston took advantage of the extra room created by anglers finishing early to Lychgate Fisheries catch 10lb 8ozs in the last hour for third place.

While anglers struggled for bites on the Carp Lakes, local towpath trotters found plenty of action in Shackeston­es Open match.

After breaking ice on the Wood side section they found small roach feeding, with fish averaging three to an ounce weights were never going to be high, but it was a close match with just 3oz splitting the top three.

Roger Pickering caught over thirty fish to weighed 14ozs to win, Doug Dimbleby finished second with 13ozs while Phil Baker came third with 11ozs.

It was hard going for the first mid week match of the year at Maynes Lakes.

Fished on Lake Two, Alan Wilson took the honours yet again, with a win from peg 22 with a 12lb 5oz catch. Robin Smith and Dave Cleaver tied for second place, both weighing 4lb 5ozs.

DM Floats Silver Fish match held at Lychgate Fisheries resulted in a tie for first place as both Kevin Folwell and Lee Hanson weighed 4lb 2ozs. Mick Smith came second with a 1lb 13oz catch.

There was thick ice covering Higham Lane for Saturday’s Open, most went home but a few did fish. Mick Linnett lead the way with an 18lb 9oz catch, John Varley weighed 8lb for second with Jim Spradbury third with 6lb 12ozs.

Higham Lane Fishery have an Open match every Thursday, draw 9am and every Saturday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have Open matches/ Lychomania Qualifiers every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday. Draw 9.15am.

Maynes Lakes have Open matches on Saturday, draw 9am and every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Shackersto­ne have an Open match on Sunday, draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun.

Brookfield have an Open match this sunday at Stoke Golding, draw 9am.
