Make a date with Calendar Girls
THE Calendar Girls are stopping off at De Montfort Hall in October 2018 for five nights of singing, dancing, laughter... and of course, lots of stripping off.
Starting in the West End under the name ‘The Girls’, Calendar Girls the Musical has been upgraded into a UK based tour.
The heart-warming musical is based on a true story about a Yorkshire lady, Angela Baker, losing her husband to non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 1999.
Angela and her WI group produced a saucy calendar in the hope to sell and raise enough money for a new sofa in the hospital ward where her husband was treated.
The women face many difficulties with body confidence and heartbreak, which is performed beautifully throughout the show.
Following the release of the calendar the women’s story made headlines all over the world and their idea has been replicated countless times.
Take That’s Gary Barlow and scriptwriter Tim Firth have adapted the award- winning film, Calendar Girls, into an uplifting, emotional and entertaining show.
Barlow and Firth first met when Firth was a judge (and former winner) for a songwriting talent contest, ran for the BBC by Bob Howes.
As a young boy, Barlow entered the competition and went on to win.
Once discovered by the men that they both came from the same town, they vowed to stay in contact- and potentially collaborate together in the future.
Fans of Barlow can expect to hear his specially written tunes for the musical including, ‘Yorkshire’ and the final number ‘Dare’.
The Calendar Girls are performing at De Montfort on October 16 (19:30), 17 (14:00 and 19:30), 18 (14:00 and 19:30), 19 (19:30) and 20 (14:00 and 19:30), 2018.
