WADE ON WATER with Richard Wade

-

LYCHGATE Fisheries mid week match winner Steve Gregory was kicking himself at the end as he had not entered the Lychomania contest and therefore failed to qualify for the big money final.

Drawn on peg 44 Steve landed 23lb 8ozs of carp to win. Ian Shirley came second with a 17lb 3oz catch while Mark Jaques took third place with 13lb 7ozs.

It was a match of two halves in Shackerstone’s latest Open match fished on the Horse & Jockey length of the canal.

Most of the fish caught were in the top half of the pegs while the other half struggled for a bite.

Leading the way was Phil Baker, who netted a decent perch to add to his small roach catch for a winning 1lb 15oz catch.

Former bingo caller John Gamble returned to the towpath to finish second with a 14oz catch of small roach while Andy Smith finished third with a 13oz catch of perch and roach.

Alan Wilson completed a hat-trick of wins in Maynes Lakes mid week Opens.

Alan finished with a 28lb 4oz catch of small carp from peg one on Lake Two.

Dave Cleaver had the top weight on Lake One, weighing 17lb 6ozs from peg 35.

After a long period of hard matches Higham Lane’s Saturday Open match produced a 85lb 7oz winning weight for Dave Hurlston.

Drawn on peg 13 Dave used “bomb and corn” tactics to catch fish to double figures.

Inform Kev Milne finished second with a 34lb 11oz catch while John Varley came third with a 16lb 11oz catch.

Thursday’s Open match was won by Kevin Milne with a three carp catch weighing 24lb 7ozs from peg 24.

There was a runaway win in Saturday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open.

Kev Dales landed nine carp in the first hour and then spent the rest of the day biteless, but he still did enough to win in convincing style as Guy Hope finished second with just under 12lbs.

It was hard in Sundays Open match with Baz Jaques catching just two fish, a nice carp and a decent bream to win.
