County Cup league stage reaching climax

THE weekend saw the last round of matches in the group stages of the two premier County Sunday cup competitio­ns.

In the County Cup Sporting Dynamo all but guaranteed their place in the knock out stages with a 4-4 draw against Finchy’s FC.

Rogue Elite travelled to the Community Football Academy and came away with a creditable and deserved 3-0 win with goals coming from Jonny Stynes and a Jordan Hemsley double.

FC Bacc have also qualified alongside Plough Inn Bruntingth­orpe in the Sunday Shield.

FC Bacc ensured their place in the Quarter Finals with a hard fought 5-3 win at Wigston based FC Willow.

Ullesthorp­e maintained their position at the top of the PWS Leicester Division One with a 4-2 home win against AFC Pubwatch Wanderers.

Max Proudlock gave them the lead halfway through the first half.

Alex Broadbent then added a couple on 26 and 48 minutes with a James Lienau goal squeezed in between.

A first half Liam Brody volley proved the difference between Athletico Duke and Stanton United OB in a hard fought game.

The 20 yard effort gave Duke the three points and sees them consolidat­e second place with games in hand over the leaders.

Wykin FC are upto third place after they beat Anchor Inn 5-2.

A first half hat-trick from Steve Hamlet gave them a 4-2 interval advantage with Lloyd Henry scoring the other goal.

Anchor made a game of it though coming back twice before the break.

The game was sealed by a second half penalty from Ryan Forryan.

In the game between the bottom two, FC Topps Reserves took the spoils at Coalville Miners winning 5-1 with Tom Haines, Ross Blake and Ben Spicer sharing the goals out between them.

AFC Barn inflicted TC Building’s first defeat of the season with Matthew Wright (2) and Steve Billings scoring their goals in a 3-1 win in the Printing Works Division Two, Daniel Toone scoring the consolatio­n for Building.

A man of the match performanc­e from Stephen Blighton on his debut in goal helped secure a 3-1 win for Stoneycrof­t United at The Holywell which sees them into second place.

Goals coming from Jason Swain and Alex Franklin (2) with a lightersid­ed moment added by Bradley Ball.

Thurlaston Magpies consolidat­ed top spot with a 2-0 win at home against Red Lion.

Shilton United maintained their challenge with a 3-1 win at Gravity FC.

Ben Harding, Matthew Bown and Ryan Brightwell scoring their goals with Noel Gilbert adding a consolatio­n for the hosts.
