A WHOLE raft of rolling closures will affect the area around one of the borough’s busiest roads next week.

The week-long series of shutdowns are due to resurfacing works being required on part of Rugby Road in Burbage.

Brookside in Burbage is also being affected.

If possible drivers are being encouraged to seek alternative routes to avoid snarl-ups on the already notoriously congested stretch.

Highways agency Leicestershire County Council have sanctioned the temporary traffic regulations which begin on Thursday February 1.

It will mean diversions around the village using Burbage Road, Coventry Road and back onto Rugby Road.

Householders are being warned any applicable 7.5 tonne weight restriction will not be in force during the works.

People living along the diversion route, particularly Windsor Road and Coventry Road, which are protected by the weight limit, are expected to experience much more local traffic including HGVs.

The programme of works begins on February 1 with Brookside closed between Rugby Road and Featherstone Drive.

Friday February 2 will see Brookside closed between Feath- erstone Drive and Far Lash.

On Saturday February 3 there will be no access onto Rugby Road from Brookside and there will be temporary two way signals on Rugby Road at the junction with Brookside throughout the day.

Sunday February 4 will see Rugby Road closed from Hillside Road to approximately 100m south of Aldridge Road.

On Monday February 5 Brookside will be closed from Far Lash to Burbage Road and temporary two way signals will operate on Burbage Road throughout the day.

Tuesday February 6 will see the closure of Brookside between Rugby Road and Featherstone Drive.

Wednesday February 7 will see Brookside closed between Featherstone Drive and Far Lash.

And on the last day Thursday February 8 Brookside will be closed between Far Lash and Burbage Road with temporary two way signals on Burbage Road throughout the day.

No stopping, waiting or parking orders are also being brought into force for the duration of the works.

The prohibition of waiting at any time orders affect Church Street (northbound) from junction of Aston Road to junction of Church Street, Hinckley Road and either side of Coventry Road from junction of Victoria Road to junction of Britannia Road.

The 7.5 tonne weight restriction will be suspended on Coventry Road and Windsor Road for the duration of the works on Rugby Road and Brookside.

The proposed alternative diversion route will be via Burbage Road, Coventry Road, Rugby Road.

Leicestershire County Council are apologising for any inconvenience caused during these works.
