Parish council vacancy is being advertised

-

A CHANCE to represent Stapleton has opened up after a parish councillor resigned.

The councillor would be tasked with representing all residents of Stapleton as well as being responsible for all residents of Peckleton, Kirkby Mallory and Stapleton, serving on Peckleton Parish Council.

The duties of the parish council include running local services such as open spaces and play areas and deciding on how much to raise through Council Tax.

The candidate would help bring about improvements through projects, lobbying service providers and working in partnerships with other parishes and agencies.

The vacancy came up after Eric Hubbard resigned from the post as he is leaving the village to live in Devon.

Councillors are consulted by the relevant planning authority on all applications.

They make decisions about what to support and where to spend money, getting involved with other local groups and representing neighbours and members of the public.

Each councillor decides how much time each week they choose to spend in their role, depending on the issues that affect them.

The council trains all councillors, with the clerk always on hand to provide help and guidance.

Peckleton Parish Council maintains a strictly unpaid status for all councillors, including the chairman.

Applicants must be local electors and on the electoral roll and have occupied as owner or tenant land or premises within the parish for the last 12 months.

Applications should be sent to the clerk, Alex Stretton, before February 3, giving your name, address, and a brief outline of yourself and your interest in the role.

The new councillor will be co-opted at the Council meeting on February 20.

Written applications can be emailed to Mrs Stretton at clerk@peckletonpc.org. uk, or posted to: Mrs Alex Stretton, Clerk to Peckleton Parish Council, Woodbine Cottage, 11 Cottage Lane, Desford, Leicestershire, LE9 9GF.
