Pet portraits could help rehome abandoned animals
PET owners are being invited to enter photographic portraits of their furry friends in a fundraising competition for Leicester Animal Aid.
Earl Shilton Camera Club secretary John Smith has organised the contest to raise money for the Huncote-based dog and cat rescue and rehoming charity.
The competition will add to money being raised by his daughter-inlaw Mel Hill from Nuneaton who is to run the London marathon for the cause in April.
At just £2 per entry, people may wish to enter more than one pic of their pets for the chance to win a top prize of a canvas print of their image.
The prize is being donated by competition judge Barwell-based professional photographer Nat (c) Coalson, an associate of the Royal Photographic Society, who runs training in all aspects of photography.
He is also donating a runner-up prize of his book Nature Photography, described as a photographic “workshop”.
Closing date for entries is Thursday March 1.
Mr Smith, who took up photography after retiring from the civil service, said: “We are big animal lovers.
“We have had the pleasure of two cats in the past but have no pets at the moment.
“We often visit Leicester Animal Aid, supporting the charity shop and making donations and we always support the raffles that come along during the year.
“I had the idea for the competition when Mel told me she was going to run the marathon and hoped I could help with my camera club activities.”
