Dance fun and royal hunt for carnival team
THE COUNTDOWN to one of the biggest events in a village calender is well and truly underway with events lined up over the next two months.
This year Stoney Stanton Carnival takes place on Saturday June 9 but ahead of the big day there are fundraising ventures and the annual contest to find the parade figurehead.
The first fun-packed endeavour is a family barn dance being held at Sapcote Club on Saturday February 3 from 7pm to 11pm.
All ages and abilities are welcome and no experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a sense of humour.
Tickets cost £5 and will be available to purchase soon, or can be bought on the door on the night.
In March, preparations properly progress with the selection process for the carnival queen and her 2018 entourage.
The annual selection night takes place on Saturday March 10 at the Village Community Hall in Stoney Stanton.
The committee are on the look- out for pageboys aged 6 to 8, attendants aged 6 to 8, princesses aged 9 to 11 and the queen herself who should be aged between 12 and 16.
To be eligible children must live in Stoney Stanton or attend Manorfield School and be the appropriate age on the day of the carnival June 9.
As well as the royal family selection the evening features a disco offering entertainment for old and young alike.
Admission to the disco is £1 per child with an additional charge of £1 to enter a draw to take pride of place on the queen’s float at the head of the parade along with the chosen figureheads.
Children attending the event must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Refreshments and sweets will be available to purchase on the night and adults may take along their own alcoholic drinks.
This year’s carnival theme is Stanton by the Sea and all are welcome to join in. The carnival committee meet on the first Monday of the month from 8.15pm at the Bulls Head pub in Stoney Stanton.
