Time to get physical in the workplace

-

WORKPLACES are urged to introduce more physical activity into the working day across Hinckley and Bosworth.

The Active Workplace Challenge is a free programme that allows workers to track their physical activity and win points, trying new sports and enjoying social opportunities with colleagues.

Mass events such as Business Games or niche sports including volleyball are on offer, as well as an offline competition programme.

The focus of this year’s challenge is to do at least three lots of 10 minute activities during the working day

Benefits for employers and employees include improved mood, a boost in concentration, increased communication, improved productivity and reduced sick leave.

Chirag Ruda, the borough council’s health improvement officer, said: “There are already 318 local employees engaged with Workplace Challenge from 41 businesses in Hinckley and Bosworth.

“This year we want even more people to take up the challenge. I’d urge everyone to make sure they log their activity points because spot prizes are frequently awarded for taking part.

“Whatever your choice of activity, it all helps to create a healthier workplace and a healthier you.

“It’s never been easier to log activities with the use of Fitbit, when your Fitbit is linked with your Workplace Challenge account, your figures will automatically be uploaded when you sync your devices.”
