Still time to get flippin’

-

THERE is still time to enter the town’s annual Pancake Race which takes place on Shrove Tuesday next week.

With it being half-term it is the perfect event to bring your children to as they are more than welcome to take part.

The ever-popular Great Pancake Race, held by Hinckley BID, will take place on Castle Street from midday on February 13.

Adventurous individuals and teams who are keen to show off their pancake tossing skills have already started to enter the annual event.

Youngsters are also invited to take part in the flipping action, with the junior event aimed at children aged 5-12.

All pancakes will be provided - entrants simply need to bring their own frying pan.

Steve Wegerif, from Hinckley BID, said: “As all pancake lovers know, Shrove Tuesday is the time to get the frying pan out, make that special mix and practice those ‘tossing and catching’ skills, trying hard not to leave your creation attached to the kitchen ceiling.

“Individuals and teams are already entering to show off their pancake tossing skills, or just to have some fun in the Hinckley Pancake Day Race, which will take place on Castle Street (from the Britannia Centre).”

There are two categories for the race - the jun- ior event and the senior event for those aged 13 and over.

Teams can be mixed in age if entering as a group or even as a family. There will be trophies for each race winner in each group and, for those wishing to dress up, there will be a special award for the ‘ funniest costume’ on the day.

The mayor will present a neck medal to every entrant.

There is no charge to enter this event, although fundraising for charities of choice is encouraged.
