Families on the trail

-

ENTRIES are already flooding in for one of the borough’s boldest and brightest summer events.

At least five households have pledged to participate in this year’s Market Bosworth Scarecrow Trail, just days after the 2018 theme was announced.

The long-standing and perennially popular celebration takes place between Friday June 8 and Wednesday June 13.

Scarecrow makers have a expansive catalogue of ideas to call on as this year they must base their figures on characters from children’s books or even any book.

And it certainly makes sense to sign up early as once you have chosen your theme, no one else can duplicate it.

Dozens of households take part with the £5 entry fee going towards redeveloping the external areas of the local primary school, St Peter’s Academy.

It is the Friends of St Peter’s and the school itself who are behind the festival.

Once in place the scarecrows attract visitors from far and wide and a trail map is available to allow all creations to be encountered by visitors to the borough.

Entry forms are being emailed out to last year’s participants and anyone else interested can pick up forms from the library, primary school or from the Rose and Radish florist and greengrocer shop in the Market Place.

A brochure is currently being prepared for the festival and businesses or individuals interested in advertising should contact organisers through the Market Bosworth Scarecrow Trail Facebook page.
