Afterwards, you can catch a bite to eat at the aptly named Nemo’s Bar and Restaurant.

26. Sing along to Dolly at the Concordia

The town theatre has some fab shows on this year.

But why not go along to the musical 9 to 5 which is on in March.

Based on the 1980s movie of the same name, 9 to 5 takes the audience back to the 1970s in this hilarious new musical comedy that centres on three office workers Violet, Dora Lee and Judy who turn the tables on their sexist boss. It features original numbers from Dolly Parton’s Oscar, Tony and Grammy Award nominated score including Backwoods Barbie, Shine Like the Sun and the original hit song 9 to 5.

27. Watch the Castle Classic cycle race in Leicester

The Castle Classic cycle race takes place every August, and is a thrill to watch.

With a course running through Leicester, cyclists will tackle both city centre roads and tricky cobbles.

It’s worth a trip around the circuit to watch the cyclists on different parts of the track, but head to the finishing line on Western Boulevard to catch the explosive ending.

28. Run the Leicester Marathon (also a Half Marathon)

Keen runners can take part in the annual Leicester Marathon, which is held on Sunday October 14 this year.

There’s also a Half Marathon option for beginners. Make sure you sign up well in advance, though - online registration usually opens at the start of the year. If you prefer a shorter event, then there is the Bosworth Half Marathon which takes place on May 13 this year.

29. See the Christmas lights being switched on

Hinckley is arguably the prettiest during Christmas time.

Thousands of lights are put up around the town, plus the Christmas tree.

The day they’re turned on you can enjoy a stage show while you wait for that exciting moment the decorations light up the town.

And then there are the fireworks to enjoy. Don’t forget the fair which takes place on Regent Street.

30. Eat pork pie for breakfast on Christmas Day

One of the most bizarre Leicestershire traditions is eating a pork pie for breakfast - on Christmas Day.

The custom apparently originated in Victorian times, perhaps as an on-the-go snack for the aristocracy during their festive hunt. Whatever the reason, it sounds good to us.

31. Buy some proper Red Leicester and Stilton cheese

For your Christmas cheese board, why not go local?

Leicestershire is one of the three counties that produces Stilton, and of course, is also home to Red Leicester.

So this year, visit Leicester Market or a local deli to get your hands on some of the proper stuff.
