Bosworth suffer a reversal of fortunes to stay 6th

-

THINGS are not going according to form in Midlands Two East South.

Last week Market Bosworth beat the team above them in the league and this week they themselves were beaten convincingly by Long Buckby, the team that are below them.

Elsewhere in the league there were similar results which ultimately kept Market Bosworth in sixth position and nine points above the victors in this encounter.

Several forced changes to Bosworth’s set up from last week and having to play under unaccustomed flood lights might have given the home side the edge but not to the extent of what was to come.

After eleven minutes of end to end stuff the Long Buckby forwards forced themselves over for the first try of the game and an excellent conversion.

From the restart Bosworth took the game to within ten metres of the Buckby line, but settled for three points from the boot of Rich Harris who kicked a second penalty shortly afterwards.

In the set pieces the scrums looked pretty equal but one or two more heavy and mature Long Buckby forwards gave them the edge in the loose which helped them force their way over for a second try which the referee decided to change to a penalty try due to an infringement over the line.

Long Buckby, gaining confidence by the minute, won a set piece fifteen metres out, passed the ball through the threes to the winger who went over in the corner for a try and conversion.

The home forwards repeated their earlier move and forced themselves over for a fourth try and conversion.

In an attempt to bolster things up Aaron Willis went on as a replacement for Bosworth only to receive a head injury within minutes and had to be replaced himself.

A yellow card for Lewis Brightmore added to Bosworth’s difficulties as did a fifth try and conversion for Buckby on forty minutes.

However the referee kept the game going for another ten minutes until after several repeated penalties awarded to Bosworth five metres from the goal line the referee awarded them with a penalty try of their own.

Half time score Long Buckby 35 Market Bosworth 13.

Things looked promising early in the second half when Ricky Wickwar scored one of his trademark tries from the back of a push over which Harris converted.

Play then moved to the other end of the pitch where luck was on Long Buckby’s side having lost the set scrum they managed to turn it enough to retrieve the ball and dive over for their fifth try.

As the Bosworth pack tired the home side, encouraged by a large gathering of supporters, became stronger and scored two more tries from powerful driving mauls which Bosworth were unable to prevent.

The final try, unfortunately for Bosworth, came when they were on the attack in the Long Buckby twenty two, the ball went loose and was picked up by one of the opposition threes who ran the length of the pitch to score.

With still four minutes to play the referee had had enough and called time.

The final score Long Buckby 59 Market Bosworth 20.
