Table Tennis: Big CATs clash

IN the recent clashes of the big CATs from Desford there have been a number of very close matches including three drawn games.

Firstly Cat G just edged out Cat E in a close affair by six sets to four.

After five sets CAT G had raced into a four set to ne lead only for CAT E to roar back with wins by Keith Sargent over John Hames, followed by Martyn Smith overcoming Dael Sidwell and then Alan Hills defeating Hames to draw level at four sets all.

It was left to CAT G’s John Pearson to take the next against Sargent before Pearson and Sidwell took the double to secure the six sets to four win.

CAT H surprising­ly could only draw with CAT E winning the double for the draw.

The CAT saga continued when CAT G and CAT F met and yet another draw ensued.

CAT G’s Dael Sidwell coming out as man of the match with three fine wins.

CAT F fought out another draw this time with G Ward C.

Rob Webster was unbeaten for G Ward, whilst Phil Wood took two for CATF

G Ward D were pushed all the way by CAT H but still managed to come away unbeaten from the encounter, winning by six sets to four.

G Ward’s Roger Hill was undefeated.

CAT H‘s Steve Crutchley who has been on an unbeaten run in recent weeks still took two good wind despite losing to Hill.

G Ward F easily overcame Market Bosworth two by 10 sets to nil. Market Bosworth 2 lost by nine sets to one against their own first team. Young Harry Thomas recording only his second win over Dave Knappett.

Hit ‘n’ Hope also beat Mkt bosworth2 by eight sets to two with Rob Seddols gaining a maximum. G Ward D demolished Hit ‘n ‘Hope in their next match by 10 sets to nil.

For so long Hit ‘n’ Hope have been chasing G Ward D at the top of the table but the league leaders just took them apart to maintain their lead.

There were maximums for Roger Hill. Ollie Wynne and Callum Dale.

The current leader board sees G Ward D top with 118 pts from 15 matches, second now are Cat H with 89 pts from 15 and dropping to third are Hit’n’Hope with 88 pts from 15 games played.

Roger Hill (GWA) leads the averages a 100 per cent record of played 40 won 40.

In second spot his young team mate Ollie Wynne with 89.21 per cent having played 29 and won 27.
