Plane ‘on fire’ causes panic

-

POLICE have said there is no cause for concern after an aircraft was seen with flames coming from it as if “fell from the sky”.

Several calls were made over the course of the evening about an object seen in the sky above the village of Husbands Bosworth, just east of Lutterworth, shortly before 6pm on Sunday (February 11).

But despite the frantic reports they received, police said they had investigated and were now certain there was nothing to worry about.

Police and firefighters rushed to the area to investigate but discovered it was aircraft that had flown over the county with pyrotechnics on their wings.

The police said in a tweet at about 6.30pm Sunday: “We have received several calls this evening about a plane falling from the sky with flames coming from the rear near to Husbands Bosworth.

“The police have attended and can confirm that this was not as reported and everything is in order.

“Thank you to everyone who has phoned in.”

A police spokeswoman later said: “It was an aeroplane with pyrotechnics attached to its wings.

“The police attended, along with the fire service as the initial calls did sound pretty scary.

“But no one is hurt and there’s nothing to worry about.”

The fire service confirmed crews from Lutterworth dispatched at 5.55pm but were recalled to the station just before 6.15pm.
