A Team in narrow defeat for Hinckley Ladies Netball club

-

ON the back of a good win the previous week, Hinckley A had a little confidence boost.

However, they were a slightly depleted team and had fill-ins from the B team. This was also a similar situation for Henley B.

Hinckley A once again started well by setting the tempo, being dynamic and scoring 13 times. Henley by the looks of things were just beginning to warm up.

The second quarter saw a few decisions not go Hinckley’s way and vice versa for Henley which led to both teams going full pelt and guns blazing.

However, Hinckley’s heads dropped and they didn’t link up as well as the first quarter.

Now Henley B were warmed up, they had several successful attacking plays which were finished nicely by their goal shooter, making the most of Hinckley A’s lull.

Henley pulled the score back within 1, Henley 17 - 18 Hinckley.

The captain felt changes had to be made to the seven on court and the team needed a morale boost and more positivity.

Hinckley began to play better with some super defensive turn overs and they managed to get the ball out of their own goal third more effectively, this was finished off nicely by the on form goal attack Carmen Whitaker and goal shooter Carole Payne.

Unfortunately, Hinckley lacked the reactions that Henley B had and the ball got turned over for them to take the lead 29-26.

Hinckley A worked until the end but it just wasn’t their week and the interlinking all the way down court was not as smooth as normal.

Changes in the final quarter saw Hinckley’s defence shift around and a replacement come on from the B team and again Hinckley A shooters made the chances count when they had them. Final score 40-33 to Henley B. Player of the match Rebecca Oldfield.

D team were reunited this week with a full team on court for their game against Cherry Bombs.

The weather was brutal with the wind reducing accuracy of passes and the rain causing a lot of dropped balls.

Hinckley played a calmer game this week passing around the circle and making some great interceptions in the centre third to turn the ball around for the shooters.

Zoe Stokes at GS was shooting like an England pro holding her position in the circle brilliantly to receive the long feeds from the attack and to then score.

At half time the score was 18-19 in Cherry’s favour.

The Cherry’s GS who normally dominates their game had difficulty with Hinckley’s GK reading and predicting her movements and despite her quick movements around the circle Hinckley were able to intercept and stop many of the GS’s attempts to score.

The whole defence worked tirelessly turning around many balls and Hinckley made Cherry’s work hard.

Some silly errors and mistakes on centre passes left Hinckley slipping behind in the 3rd and 4th quarters and the Cherrys went ahead to win 33 – 26.

Despite losing overall this was an improved team performance and Hinckley hope to learn from this for their next match.

Ede Roche at WD won player of the match for her many energetic interceptions and overall enthusiastic play.
